The People Behind Your Fresh Start

For over two decades, Common Ground has helped thousands of Utah...

25+ Years of Helping Families Find Common Ground

In 1999, David Musselman established the Divorce Mediation Institute of Utah — becoming the first non-lawyer admitted to the Utah Court Mediation Roster. In 2004, he founded Common Ground Mediation with a simple belief: divorce doesn't have to destroy families.

Since then, we've guided over 8,000 couples through one of life's most difficult transitions — with a 96% success rate. We pioneered flat-fee divorce mediation in Utah, developed revolutionary alimony buyout concepts now used by attorneys and judges statewide, and have saved Utah couples an estimated $250 million in attorneys' fees.

Today, we continue to innovate — incorporating AI-powered mediation technology to make the process even more accessible, efficient, and fair for every family we serve.

"Divorce is a legal event — but it's an emotional journey. We're here for both."

What Makes Common Ground Different

We didn't just enter the mediation field — we redefined it. Here's what sets us apart.

Flat-Fee Pricing

No hourly billing surprises. We were the first in Utah to offer flat-fee divorce mediation — you know exactly what you'll pay before we start.

30 Days or Less

While attorneys drag cases out for months (or years), our streamlined mediation process resolves most cases in 30 days or less after the mandatory waiting period.

No Attorneys Needed

You don't need to hire expensive attorneys. Our mediators guide both parties to fair agreements — saving you thousands while protecting your interests.

Dignity-Focused

Divorce is hard enough. We create a respectful environment where both parties are heard, children's needs are prioritized, and families can move forward with grace.
