Our Story

25+ Years of Helping Families Find Common Ground

In 1999, David Musselman established the Divorce Mediation Institute of Utah — becoming the first non-lawyer admitted to the Utah Court Mediation Roster. In 2004, he founded Common Ground Mediation with a simple belief: divorce doesn't have to destroy families.

Since then, we've guided over 8,000 couples through one of life's most difficult transitions — with a 96% success rate. We pioneered flat-fee divorce mediation in Utah, developed revolutionary alimony buyout concepts now used by attorneys and judges statewide, and have saved Utah couples an estimated $250 million in attorneys' fees.
