Utah County Divorce Mediation
Settle custody, support and property outside the courtroom, with the Utah rules that apply to a Utah County divorce.
Divorce mediation for Utah County couples
Divorce mediation in Utah County follows the same Utah rules as everywhere else: a neutral mediator helps you and your spouse settle parenting time, child support, alimony, property and debts, and the result becomes a written agreement the court can adopt. Most couples need a few sessions over a few weeks. If a divorce has been filed and answered, Utah requires at least one mediation session before trial.
This page is for couples in Provo, Orem, Lehi, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Spanish Fork, Springville, Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain and the rest of the county. Questions that often come up here include parenting plans for several children on different school schedules, and dividing a family business or a stake in a startup, where agreeing on a value is the central question.
Where a Utah County divorce is filed
A divorce for a Utah County resident is filed with the Utah County District Court, part of Utah's Fourth Judicial District. You can file a new case by email at [email protected], and the clerk's office is at (801) 429-1000, Monday to Friday. You file your own documents; check the court's current hours and requirements on utcourts.gov before you file.
Utah rules that apply in every county: one spouse must have lived in the county where the case is filed for at least three months before filing, and the court cannot enter a decree until at least 30 days after filing unless it waives the wait. Parents of minor children must complete the divorce orientation and parenting courses.
